The leading organic trade fair, BioFach 2020, opened in Nuremberg on February 12th. For the first time, a stand of Kazakhstan appeared, prepared by the Union of Organic Producers of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Samples of food (cereals, grains, oilseeds, flour) exhibited a dozen companies from different regions of the country.

“Participation in BioFach is an important step for the development of the organic sector of Kazakhstan,” said Hubert Demmler, Director of the CIS Office of Professional Exhibitions. Our country has great potential in the production of environmentally friendly food due to the vast areas of arable land and pastures where agricultural chemistry has never been applied. Therefore, the period of transition from traditional agriculture to organic will take a minimum time. An additional plus is the proximity to the huge markets of China and Russia, where organic consumption is growing very rapidly. Kazakhstan has a very bright future in organics. It is also important that you can produce many special crops that are difficult to grow in other regions. For example, oil flax, in the production of which Kazakhstan has become a world leader in a very short time. There is also the potential for growing technical hemp, the demand for which is growing very rapidly. It is used in the production of a wide variety of materials, from fabrics to plastics.

Hubert Demmler drew attention to the fact that so far most of the organic products from Kazakhstan are supplied in the form of raw materials. However, the country needs to think about the development of its own processing. After all, this will significantly increase the profitability of the industry.
